Sodium Acetate + ice scultpures
well after the green festival and the enjoyment i had wathcing the ice melt and the seeds dropping to the floor making variuos patterns along with how the ice melted around the seeds and left a semi solid block of them. i decided to look into ice scultpures that were hung or focused on melting
this is what i found:

this looks like it could be a lot of fun and give some great results.
the form i want to concentrate on first is my hand. I have make some latex molds of 3 differnt shapes so far going to make a few more then start filling with various things and photograph them melting possibly making a short film.
also thinking of candles? chocolate? concreate? resin? its just at the starting points but it could go very far.

green fest
i hung these around the church but mainly on one tree and i thought they looked really good
throughout the day i saw little children playing with them and gave out the recipe as well for the children to make
these images are of the ice and seed i made and how they melted and fell to the ground
what i liked the most about this project was making something for a very open brief. I think i will follow on this project. the way the ice melted and revialed the seeds and they way they scattered.
i think i will make latex molds and fill with different things and take pictures of them melting and go from there. possibly hands in different positions maybe even make candles.

tomorros green festival
This is when i was first making the bird cakes
this one is has been made from seeds, fruit and lard and this is how they looked
After making this form of bird cake i didnt like how it was quite soft and couldnt see the seeds which i wanted to see.
so i went looking through the internet and found a really good recipe that involves marshmallows, lots of bread crumbs, suet in stead of lard.
so i put the mix into a cup containing a cake cake so once the mic was dry i would have a "bird cake" that i could hang.
after doing this the mix has set really well but i was still wondering how i could just have the glossy seeds stuck together. so using a mold i put the seeds in and then water and froze it. and it looks really good but i no it would last and the seeds will fall to the ground but they will be eaten by the squirrels .
but while i was doing this i trail i decided to boil sugar and make a hard crack sugar then wait and see

I boil together one cup of sugar and one cup of water for about 5 minutes, then mix with 8 onz of melted lard. When cool I add breadcrumbs, flour, bird seed, boiled rice and scraps until the mixture is very stiff. Then form into balls which fit into a feeder. Sparrows in particular love them. This mix makes about 15 balls.
Gandyland Goo Cakes

Melt bag of miniature marshmallows, cup of lard, and small jar of chunky peanut butter over low heat. Stir in about 3 cups black oil sunflowers, and after thoroughly coating the seeds, add another 3 cups, plus fruit or nuts if desired. Press into molds and put in freezer for a couple of hours until they set firmly.
Attracts many types of birds!
We have red-bellied woodpeckers, downy woodpeckers, nuthatches, brown creeper, ruby-crowned kinglets, chickadees, cardinals, pine siskens and many other birds visiting this feeder just outside the window.

natural liquid protein for their glue -

been looking at different ways to bind the bird food together
i have done lard which was recomneded although they stick together they look not as nice as i wanted.
i have been advised that adding bread crumbs and using suet could help and the longer the mix is left out in the air the harder it will be.

my ideas from when i was there on the day plus others i have had recently
but i am going to make the bird cakes in shapes inspired by nature using wild bird seed fruit and lard to bind it together as this recipe shows
i will aim to put as many as i can up in the trees and take photos of were they are
original frames
colour in fun frame
well i finally did it got my ideas straight and now i am going to do something with the frames as andrea said that the images i have taken of the boys n faye look better without the frames and i will take her word for it but i really wanted to do something with them.
so i have created an email address
colourinfunframe@yahoo.co.uk
and then adding info to the frames and i have uploaded them to my idisk and gettin people to download them and send a picture back of them or something framed within the frame. hopefully will create a large collection for the exhibition on 7th April.

frames
as i was taking the first lot of images i was thinking that the image on its own needed something.
looking in art galleries with all the paintings and images framed i thought i would look into framing the images however i dont want to use a modern style frame thats minimal and square.
i then started looking for a filigree style frame. i looked online and i didnt find much just bits and pieces.
i then started to look at Kat Von D who is a tattoo artist well known for filigree designs and a love of all things old and gothic.
i looked through her book and found a design she drew for a poster. i edited what i wanted from the frame and redrew and redrew untill i came up with the 4 frames below. the 2 larger frames are based more on her design then the 2 other frames are ones using just one piece mirrored.
i think these could have a lot of potential if i use them correctly

artsists
well i no i should be doing this more but i have most of what i need to do in my written journal
so i have done a couple of photo shoots :
this was from the first with a friend who asked if i could take the picks to help show male fantasy of 2 women
i quite enjoyed it was a lot of fun so i thought i could use it in my site project i took it to uni and andrea said i was good at taking pictures but what did i want out of it and at the time it was to see what was appropriate in a certain site ie trafford centre billboards vs gallery space
i was then asked why dont i take pictures of 2 guys and then try it so i have done so and also a guy and a woman so there is a collection and then 2guys and a girl
for the second photo shoot this was the inspiration Terry Richardson
i like the brash imagery that is quite derogatory to women so i thought i would take the inspiration and switch it over and have the men in the images.
