well watched helevtica last night was really informative into what i am doing and really looking forward to carrying on with everything. this weekened i will be sorting out my sketch book (the a4 one) with fonts and i think i am going to look at the quote:
"Art is never finished, only abandoned."
and looking at how i can use different fonts, back grounds and places to find out which is best.
going to develope the picture alphabet a bit more as well and possibly make a stencil of my fav letter font from the computer. i am doing this so i can show the difference between the printed text from a computer against hand written txt AND letter press, stamp text.

Paper again

Made some more paper but insted of using a frame and deckle like usual i have just layed out a sheet of fabric and scoped up the pulp in my hand and layed it out. i managed to make quite a large piece and they r also thin and very soft but still beautiful. i added crushed bay leaf and rosemary to the mix so the paper smelt nice and it worked it smells wonderfuly aromatic.
i actually slept most of the day away as natural winter light gives me headaches as far as im aware due to the fact its quite low in the sky. think i need to get some darker tinted glasses as its gettin stupid again with the headaches luckly i can work when its dark and tend to feel better

Will up load some images of paper and things i have been up too soon though even some quotes in pictorial form and see if u can decipher them.

Ill again!!

well yesterday i started to get a headache witch is normal n eyes hurt again normal but to go to bed n wake up worse??? not good

anyway yesterday i printed on the paper i made using leaves and natural stuff mixed with paper pulp. it looked fantastic i am soooo pleased however i spelt something wrong on one of the prints that my mum kindly pointed out ... ourselfs not ourselves got annoyed at it but o well nothing to b done now i have printed that quote soooo many times n no one has noticed hum i guess i will b okay.
Jon liked the idea of the pictorical alphabet but wondered what things would look like all in pictures as im at home i think i will do a quote for him in to to show him n then leave it possibly for another time???
also what would the quote look like in a long line insted of page formate? which gets me to thing of other things i could print on that isnt a page formate like a triangle or someting?
only been on the project for a short time n i need to start focusing apparently but i feel i need to expad a little to see what else there is n then rain it in a little so to say. so i think i will carry on with some stuff then see what i feel is right n where these quotes fit.

side note
im still thinking on whether i should do the abandoned work ot not i guess it will fit the quote n give imput from people but i feel that i wouldnt get them back so its lost work and i may not even get a reply if the paper or thing is degraded or put in the bin. May trial in uni first with a few sheets in n around the building with a return to interactive arts if found on it n see what happens before i get ppl to leave them on buses n dorm rooms etc.

New ideas

well its a known fact that some ideas happen in the strangest of places. lay in the bath i had the idea to create some of the quotes for my book not in letter form ie using letters or even numbers but in pictorial form.
i can do things like take pictures of things that represent the work like you as a sheep, or the letter A as an A board or pictures of things as letters.
will do some drawings
also thort of playing hang man with people to guess the quote and use that?? could b fun

well most of this week i have been making lost of different styles of paper. i have been talking to one of the third years n she has helped me alot, hopefully once i have a few different types of paper and start printing on it in letter press and rubber stamps hopefully.
also done one of my essays and just started next one, its a little difficult but hopefully will be over and done with by tomorro.
i have been watching alot of movies and just gettin round to wrting them down ... i watch so many a week its gettin a little tedious to write down all the information for each one but o well.
i am still on the hunt for really good quotes i have got some just from the movies i have been watching ... also managed to get a copy of helevtica which will be good to watch.
my next thing is to make paper possibly out of leaves? and other natural materials that isnt wood pulp, possibly make some made from raggs, like the arabians made it.
Need to look for new things to print on as well and things to print with like a collage to make letters.

well I have write half of my essay on image and things. I decided to look at the history of paper insted of the pen because it was more interesting, however it was good to read about the history of how the pen came around.
I have made a few pieces of paper already, they turned out quite interesting and quite thick and lots of larger pieces of paper. This has given the paper lots of texture and could be good to letter press onto. My next stage is to create some more paper that is of a finer quatity. I will do this by blending the paper into a finer pulp apose it ripping it by hand. I will also get a smaller set of frames that are more of a traditional paper size appose to the rectangle pieces I have now. All going well I will b able to make lots of paper today if I can get the frame made in wood work.

Still thinking of other things I can print on,
Also make rubber letter stamps in hand written script could b a good idea,
Talk to 3rd year about paper making and also thinking about making letters out of a picture that reprecents the quote or phrase.

Letter press

well a very busy past few days been learning sign writing which is highly decretive and can be quite tricky to do but the results look amazing when done right.
well today i spent the most part of the day doing letter press quotes which look fab and i am really pleased with the initial run through. however i now need to start looking at things i can print onto that is different and eye catching. the leaf i did was really interesting, not only did the ink take but the letter press left an indent in the leaf.

to do list

get interesting materials to print on Done
get some new quirky quotes or phrases Done
do more hand written stuff Done
re cover sketch book
finish essays + fill in extension sheet Done
keep up the mass amount of work i have done Getting there

New project

Well i have changed my project and getting quite excited about it which is a good thing. I am now going to explore the effect of letter font on written quotations. i will be looking at traditional methods of calligraphy and hand drawn fonts to the letter press and finally to the the computer font.
i have started my research of letter formation in books and guides to calligraphy and also taken text from the Metro and other sources and put them into a book.

Also i have completed my book binding class which will enable me to possible create a book form my final outcome. I have also just done my metal work induction that was really good fun and very enjoyable which is always a good thing. now i just need to concentrate on my essays i am having more trouble with the contextual essay in witch we have to write 1000 words on one of the readings but im sure i will be able to sort it out for monday for jon to have a look through.

other than that i am really looking forward to experimenting with fonts and collecting quotes from modern to old ones from Plato and W.B. Yeats to even some of George Bush's blunders.

Last weeks review

Well so far i have decided that i am well enough to be able to do a challenging project that i can research and create something i have never dont before i am thinking at looking at typography from calligraphy to letter press and modern day typography such as differences from one news paper to the next and how artists use it to decorate and also embellish work such as the mail artists.
However i have done some work in my last project i have manipulated photos of my favorite places and taken my favorite aspects and created usual out comes that in one photo could actually be real. I could easily carry this project further but i feel that i wouldn't learn as much as i would by doing another project.
i created my A4 sheet to show what i have been up to as well it looks every neat and i like the simplicity. i feel that when things are to over the top it will distract the viewer from what its really about.
I missed Fridays lecture due to a side effect from the antibiotics i am on but have the written text from the intranet for all of the ones i missed when i was off due to the op.
i think i will write the image or thing essay on the pen and how it came to be and that the computer is the modern day pen.

i have started to write all my movies and books and art galleries i have been to in a book as i think a blog with all that is would be a little to much as i watch a lot of movies about 10 or so a week give or take but some are ones i have seen before however i will say some of my favourite films are those by Studio Ghibli.
i wonder if we are ment to mention music too as it as much of an inspiration and state of mind as movies and books so i dunno but my itunes contains 4463 songs so to list them could b a bit much.

although I like my project I just feel it was a quick short lived project and that I may edit the protects progression into typeography looking at the mail artists and everyday type as well as caligraphy

First day of blogging

okay so today lernt about mail artists was a lot more interesting than I thought it would be . I loved the way they all came together by using a combination of other peoples thoughts and ideas. Also the stamps and magazine collages on the front of the envolpes is impressive. I would love to do one of the mail art projects I just feel I may be dissapointed at what I can do apose to what I would get back ... Anyway looking at the rubber stamps made me remeber about the printing set I had when I was little so I got a new one and I am going to do key annotation with them.
Book binding was informative but wish this one would have been hands on but next Tuesday will be better.
I feel my sense of place project is getting over shadowed by the fact I an more excited about my printing kit but at least it will motivate me to do my annotation. Hopefully I will b doing some hands on making in the next week with this project insted of digital manipulation which I find pretty standard these days ... I'm thinking large image of a Manchester alley way with grass 'pavement' and a 3D washing line but we shall see
